Job Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive development plan for BANANAS. The Director is an exempt position, with a place in the Executive Group additionally composed of the Directors of Programs, Finance, and the Executive Director.
Background:
BANANAS is a non-profit child care referral and resource agency serving the diverse families in Northern Alameda County, California. We provide free parenting information, workshops and referrals to family child care, child care centers, preschools, babysitters, in-home caregivers, nannies and playgroups. We provide subsidized child care for parents in need. We also offer training, workshops, classes and technical support to caregivers and child care programs to assure parents a wide selection of quality care.
The agency is a pioneer in the child care field, and is the model for similar agencies throughout California and the nation. For most of its thirty-eight year history, government-funding has been sufficient to guarantee BANANAS' ongoing operations. There has been no need for a comprehensive development plan, nor has there ever been a Development Director. However, government-funding is uncertain, and the agency has decided to develop new revenue streams in order to maintain and expand services and deliver on its mission.
Through its services for all families, children and child care professionals, and through its advocacy and support for poor families in Oakland, Berkeley, and beyond, BANANAS strengthens families, and strengthens our community. Our new Development Director will appreciate and be a champion of that vision. S/he will be comfortable in a culture that is highly collaborative, mutually supportive, values-driven and family-friendly. S/he will embrace the opportunity to build and implement a development plan from scratch, and will enjoy the journey as well as the ultimate destination.
